Founded in 1964, the nonprofit association SCORE helps small businesses start, grow and succeed in the U.S. Its network has more than 13,000 volunteers. These experienced volunteers offer small business entrepreneurs free business counseling services. They represent over 270,000 years of experience across 62 industries. SCORE also organizes local events and workshops that bring together business owners, and the people and information they need to succeed.

SCORE is headquartered in Herndon, VA and has 364 chapters nationwide. It is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and has been dedicated to mentoring small business for over forty years.

The U.S. Small Business Administration was founded on July 30, 1953. It mainly focuses on delivering loans, loan guarantees, contracts, counseling sessions and other forms of assistance to small businesses. The SBA has four main functions:
1. Access to Capital (business financing): The SBA provides small businesses with a wide range of financing: from micro lending to venture capital.
2. Government Contracting (federal procurement): The SBA’s Office of Government Contracting sets goals with other federal departments and agencies to reach the statutory goal of 23 percent in prime contract dollars to small businesses. The office offers small businesses subcontracting procurement opportunities, outreach programs, and training as well.
3. Entrepreneurial Development: The SBA provides small businesses with free individual in person and internet counseling; it also offers nascent entrepreneurs and established small businesses low-cost training. This training and counseling is offered in more than 1,800 places nationwide.
4. Advocacy (Voice for Small Business): The Advocacy Office was created in 1978. It reviews Congressional legislation and testifies on behalf of small business. It also evaluates the impact of regulatory burden and conducts intense research on American small businesses and the small business environment.

Found in 1985, UCSD CONNECT is a university-based non-profit organization that helps forest San Diego entrepreneurship. It catalyzes, accelerates and supports the growth of the most promising technology and life science in the region. Since its inception, CONNECT has been directly involved with over 900 companies and helped them raise over $7.3 billion in capital. CONNECT, as part of UCSD, plays two major roles in accelerating growth: it promotes the commercialization of technology from university-based research; and it also helps business service providers, attorneys, accountants, bankers, investors and marketing professionals – with knowledge about emerging technologies – find access to new business opportunities. The organization, instead of receiving funding from UCSD and the State of California, is entirely self-supporting. It funds its programs and community services through philanthropy and underwriting.

This event is to highlight the significance of the analytic cluster in San Diego, and it attracts attendants throughout the U.S.

The Rady School of Management, established in 2001, is a new professional school within the well-recognized institution UC San Diego for higher education and research. The Rady School offers a Full-Time MBA program, a FlexMBA program for working professionals, a Ph.D. program, undergraduate and executive educational courses. UC San Diego, whose lineage includes 16 Nobel Laureates (former and current faculty) and eight MacArthur Foundation award recipients, also provides The Rady School with rich resources that boost their research, development and innovation. This privileged position helps The Rady School underlay their curriculum and academic model.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Rady School of Management is to educate ethical leaders for innovation-driven organizations. Its values include innovation, impact, collaboration, integrity and risk taking.

Services

The Rady School’s MBA program focuses on life sciences and technology industries, and allows Rady MBAs to develop expertise in these industry sectors to meet the demand of innovation-driven companies. The program has two formats: the Full-Time MBA and the FlexMBA. The FlexMBA program is designed for working professionals who are available for evening or weekend schedules.
The Rady Center for Executive Development offers the Executive Development program to professionals intent on improving their business acumen but who don’t need any degree certificates. The Center offers custom programs, open enrollment programs, half-day courses in the Learning Consortium series and a leadership assessment program.
The Rady School also offers an undergraduate minor in accounting, a Ph.D program in management, and a concurrent MBA degree for students pursuing a Ph.D. at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Established in 1998, CommNexus San Diego is a non-profit association that helps local technology businesses start, grow, and succeed. The association provides the technology industry with valuable content-driven programs, access to capital, talent partners, and business development suggestions.

The MarketLink Program provides the opportunity for growing companies to initiate and develop strategic relationships with leading multi-national corporations. Qualified companies will be selected through a series of social meetings. They will be introduced to top level executives from multi-national corporations focusing on new products and technologies. CommNexus VCLink program provides selected executives and entrepreneurs the opportunity to meet with the managing partners of multinational venture capital firms in a relaxed environment. Visiting managing partners describe their firms view of the market and in what area they are currently looking to invest. Throughout the meetings, both the entrepreneurs and the VCs can find potential partners.
